At Cannonball Garage we are all about testing and results. Our new CSO1200 package for the McLaren 720s has proven capable of 1100+WHP. While that is an astounding number on the chassis dyno, the drag strip is the best place to see real world results because trap speeds are the most real indicator of horsepower there is. We are proud to report our first outing with the CSO1200 was a success.
An event is not an ideal place to do testing but the GT-R World Cup was our only option with winter set in here in Chicago. This annual event in Florida held at the end of January / beginning of February usually caters to only the Nissan GT-R but this year they announced a new DCT Class. This now allows the GT-R’s to compete with supercars like Audi R8’s, Lamborghini Huracán’s and Porsche’s.
Our customer Wayne was unable to attend the event so we enlisted our friend Jordan Martin from Prime Cuts Chop Shop for driving duties. Jordan is no stranger to really fast cars and is probably most famous for his wheelie popping AMS Performance ALPHA OMEGA Lamborghini and 6 second ALPHA 22 GT-R.
With not that many passes allotted to us we used qualifying and elimination rounds to slowly dial in the tune and creep our way up in power testing the abilities of the stock transmission and drivetrain. The M-Engineering duo of Mitch and John skillfully worked their magic and the car got faster and faster each pass.
As the day drew to a close we ended up achieving our goal of an 8 second pass and eclipsing the 160mph barrier. We ended up with a best time of 8.984 @ 162mph making it the fastest McLaren at the event!
With some much needed data we found where some improvements can be made to go even faster. The best news though was the CSO1200 package proved itself as a potent performer and backed up those dyno numbers with real world results.
